Acupuncture and Reflexology

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years helping many. There are hundreds of acupuncture points on the body which run along meridians (energy pathways). The Chinese call this energy Qi. Each point has a purpose and is used to stimulate and balance the body. When the body is out of balance we feel ill, or notice that something just isn’t right. Acupuncture can help the body restore balance and is particularly beneficial for pain relief, people with diabetes, colitis, arthritis, sports injuries, high blood pressure, acne, eczema, circulation, stress, depression and more. By stimulating the Qi, the body can begin to rebalance itself. The needles used are the width of a course human hair and treatments are quite relaxing!

Initial consultation plus treatment – $95.00 (tax exempt)
1 hour session – $80.00 (tax exempt)

Reflexology

Reflexology is another area of TCM that has been around for thousands of years. The feet are a Microsystem of the body. This means that different areas of the feet represent different parts of the body. By stimulating these areas on the feet, we can aid the body in rebalancing itself just like with acupuncture. It is very helpful for conditions like diabetic neuropathy, stress, digestive disorders, sciatica, headaches, sore tired feet and more. What a great way to end the week if you are on your feet a lot!

1 hour session – $80.00 + HST

Fire Cupping

Cupping is an ancient technique where glass cups are placed on the skin to create a reverse vacuum. To create that vacuum, the cups are heated using a cotton ball soaked in alcohol held with forceps. The cotton is set on fire, placed in and out of the cup very quickly removing the oxygen from inside it. It is then quickly placed on the skin which creates a vacuum. The cups can be left in one place which is called stationary cupping; moved about which is called slide cupping; or quickly put on and taken off which is called walking cupping.

Most find cupping very relaxing. It is a wonderful way to relax tense sore muscles and can be used for other issues as well, such as boosting immunity, helping the body remove toxins, stimulating circulation, respiratory issues, weight loss and more. It is sometimes used at the end of an acupuncture treatment or, it can be used on its own.

1 hour session – $80.00 + HST

Doreen Howard, D.Ac, R.Ac, RRT

Strides is pleased to welcome Doreen Howard to our wellness team! Over the years, Doreen has had many different career paths but was always drawn to medicine. In 2007, Doreen graduated as a Holistic Nutritionist but still felt something was missing. In early 2016, Doreen graduated with her diploma in acupuncture from the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). During her years of study, she was also introduced to Chinese Reflexology and Cupping (other wonderful wellness tools to add to her repertoire).
