Esthetics, Massage, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Laser & Cosmetic Medicine

Strides Spa and Wellness Centre is a beautiful, elegant and modern facility combining health, beauty and wellness simultaneously. Strides Spa, a division of Strides Health & Fitness Club, was established in June 2014. Located on the 2nd level of MacMillan Centre and spanning 6,000 square feet, the centre offers a multitude of health services all under one roof: Massage Therapy, Chiropractic, Medical Laser Services, as well as a beautiful, large hair salon and a full esthetics studio, allowing groups of 4-8 to book manicures and pedicures together. Strides Spa is fully licensed; offering wine, beer and Champagne from our beverage menu but complimentary tea and flavoured water is available in our client lounge. As a complement to our laser services, we are proud to offer Cosmetic Medicine. Botox and fillers (Juvederm) can help eliminate lines and wrinkles when administered by our trained on-site physician, Dr. Seyed Dastmalchian. Amalgamations of the services provided at Strides Spa and Strides Fitness ultimately result in total body wellness and leave our clients always wanting more.

Spa Etiquette

Please respect our ring-tone free zone. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Relax with a refreshment in our client lounge. You may be asked to fill out a client health history questionnaire upon your first visit. We recommend booking your appointments and packages 3-4 weeks in advance to ensure you receive the time and practitioner/technician you have requested.

FOOD FACT FRIDAY🍋🥑🌶
___
As a follow up to last weeks artificial sweeteners post , this week we learn about natural sweeteners that you can use in place of refined sugar, high-fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. Be mindful that they are still sources of sugar so should be used in moderation. They have the benefit of containing key vitamins and minerals as well as calories and nutrients which our bodies know how to process.
___
Raw honey🍯 Packed with enzymes, antioxidants, iron, zinc, B vitamins and 1 tbsp has less impact on glycemic load than a single banana!
___
Dates: loaded with potassium, copper, iron. magnesium and B6! Easily digested and can help reduce LDL cholesterol! Make a date syrup to use in recipes in place of sugar!
___
Coconut sugar🥥: Low glycemic load and rich in minerals!Measures just like regular sugar in your recipes!
___
Maple syrup🍁: Rich in antioxidants (the darker the grade (B) the better). Still high in natural sugar content so use sparingly!
___
Stevia🍃: Zero calories, zero carbohydrates and none of the nasty side effects of artificial sweeteners! Make sure the stevia you buy is 100% pure and organic!

FOOD FACT FRIDAY🥑🥩🍳
__

Good fats can actually lower cholesterol levels, boost brain function and support satiety. Certain types of fat can possess anti-inflammatory properties. Bad fats contribute to weight gain and chronic disease.
___

Unsaturated fats like those found in avocado, fish, extra-virgin olive oil, seeds and nuts are good fats for us. Unsaturated fatty acids can aid in weight loss, decrease inflammation and reduce risk of heart disease.
___

Saturated fats which have gotten a bad rap are found in meat, dairy, and eggs. Some research has found that previous assumptions about saturated fat being bad for your health may not actually be supported by science. While some of these fats are unhealthy, there are many sources that are healthy and rich in important nutrients. The healthiest saturated fats are grass-fed organic butter, coconut oil, dark chocolate, eggs and grass-fed beef.
____

The real bad fats are trans fats which are found in processed foods, hydrogenated oils, cakes, crackers etc. Eating trans fats can increase the risk of heart disease as well as add inches to our waistlines.
____

Bottom line: Of the average 30% of your total calories from fat in a day, it is generally recommended that unsaturated fats should make up the majority of your fat intake. Don’t stress as much about saturated fats but aim for 10% or less of your daily calories and avoid trans fats as much as possible!!
